Description

We have a downy woodpecker coming to our feeder that has dull yellow feathers everywhere a normal downy woodpecker would have white feathers. We’d love to have an explanation for this.

I believe he might be melanistic

No, melanism is where there is an increase of melanin which causes black or darker areas on an animal’s body.
I know I’ve seen a name for this condition before I just can’t remember it.
