Unusual Bird: A baby Northern Cardinal with deformed bill

The photos were taken in mid September 2014. The baby Cardinal was fed by its father.
The father has 4 broods of Cardinals in this summer. The one with deformed bill was the last baby it had.
In fact the father showed a cross-bill early this year (around Feb). But the defect is no more now.
