Unusual Bird: Evening Grosbeak (male) with unusual undertail coverts.
Additional images:
On Oct. 26, 2013, Oct. 4, 2015 and this past weekend March 4 & 5, 2017 we had a male evening grosbeak at our feeder with unusual undertail covert markings. The spots appear symmetrical but the amount of spots seem different for all 3 sightings. So unsure if this is the same bird, father/son, siblings, or simply coincidence.

Jake Kalyta who lives approx 3 miles west and 3 miles north of Fisher Branch, MB (approx 5-6 miles south west of our previous sightings location) had a similar male show up at his feeder this past week. Joanne Smith Jan. 28, 2018.
I actually had two male Evening Grossbeaks each with different such markings. Too different to assume it is the same bird. Very likely there may be genetic links to Joanne’s birds. Would have a better idea if we were certain these markings didn’t change with age.
