Unusual Bird: Redpoll with partial amelanism
Additional images:
The arrival of Redpolls was later than usual and only began in early February. Among the large numbers that occurred in the yard, peaking in mid-March, was an individual that I believe exhibited partial amelanism. It had a number of white patches in its plumage, but what also stood out to me was the blood red color of its legs. the legs and feet also appeared slightly swollen and I don’t know whether this was another aspect of its anomaly or whether it was an unrelated health issue. The photos were taken on March 17 and 18 in my backyard on Liberty Street in the southwest area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA (They have been cropped and downsized but full resolution versions are available.)
