Unusual Bird: yellow-variant house finch in western WIsconsin
We have had few house finches this year but today a male yellow-variant showed up with a typical male. According to Sibley the yellow-variant is typically a SW US critter. A friend in northern Illinois told me he saw one last week in northern Illinois. Are these guys being reported other places in the north?

I don’t have a photo of my yellow variant house finch because I don’t have the equipment fo r this kind of photography. Nevertheless, I’ve regularly seen a yellow variant at my feeder in north-central PA, the Mansfield area. It looks just like yours!
