Description

My town requires that some tree trunks be left standing as bird habitat when clearing for new homes. Looks like these birds appreciated the effort. This photo was taken from my back yard this summer.

We had a Pileated Woodpecker at our suet basket this morning. The other little birds feeding on the ground below were enjoying it as well. The Flickers are not as good at tearing the suet apart. None of the suet or the seeds from regular bird feeder ever go to waste because the ducks come up from the pond after the morning feeding. I mean they don’t leave anything.
We don’t see the Pileated as often because they may have lost some of their nesting sites this last winter due to blow down (old Red Alder and Black Cotton Wood).
