Description

Evening grosbeaks started showing up at my feeders on Oct. 26, 2013. The number peaked on Nov. 8 when there were 30. In December, the numbers varied from three to 18. It is not unusual to see them in Flagstaff in the winter. Three different flocks were counted on the Mount Elden/Flagstaff CBC on Dec. 28, 2013.

We have had evening grosbeaks for two weeks now feeding in our feeders. I’ve never seen them before and there were a good 50 of them or more when they first arrived. This is May, is this unusual? They are beautiful birds!

A little late to reply but I just saw this. Evening grosbeaks move around a lot and are unpredictable. When I lived in southern Ohio, they could be around in the winter in large numbers but not every year. In northern Arizona where I live now, they come in smaller numbers, sometimes in winter. This year I didn’t see any until spring.
