On a brilliantly bright but frigidly cold day last week, I noticed the chickadees suddenly converging on my seed-filled window-feeder, and took up my cell-phone. Waiting paid off. One chickadee stayed long enough for me to appreciate him or her singing in the cold and standing up to the big camera challenging it. How can anyone not admire these little survivors of such cruel cold?

This little chickadee stayed for several photos, singing away in -31 C. weather, to check on the in-door folk!
