Description

This is but one snapshot of a ‘Dance’ ritual these two female Northern Flickers carried on for several fascinating minutes. I saw this performance repeated several times over a few days in late April. What were they saying to each other? Were they just having fun in the afternoon sun? Were they discussing travel plans? Were they arguing over territory? Trying to determine dominance? Arguing over who the cutest guy is in town? What was going on with all those sounds and postures? I’d love to know! I wish I could have captured the ‘dance on’ video?

What Is The ‘Dance’ Of The Flicker Sisters?
