Description

As a Californian, I was thrilled to be birding in the tundra with David Sibley. My target bird was the ptarmigan and was disappointed I didn’t see one during our stay at Denali. On the bus ride out of the park, we saw a ptarmigan doing his broken wing display around a caribou strolling on the road. Our guide knew there was a family of ptarmigan nearby and luckily we saw the mate right outside the bus window. That really made my trip.
