Description

Sighted on 11-9-2016.Have been feeding birds in my backyard – a maple woodland garden, for 10 years. This is the first time I have seen a flicker at this feeder. Have only spotted this male and am building a nest house to see if we can get one to stay the year. He has made many appearances subsequently and is particularly fond of suet, especially our homemade suet/peanut butter/cornmeal mixture that can be mashed onto trees.

Lived on Beaver Island for 35 yrs. and they ate ants in my sandy 38 acres but always migrated in late Sept. Spent the last six winters in kazoo and never saw one until today, 12-17-22 on my suet feeder. Always assumed they went way south in winter. I guess all the birds etc. are adapting to loss of habitat, and global warming…but what will they eat in these artic temps.?
