Description

Our winter feeders have been up and active for a month now. Regulars include, Black-Capped Chickadees, Nuthatches, Redpolls, American Goldfinches, Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers and the ever-present and bossy Blue Jays. To add a festive touch and a holiday-themed photo backdrop, I placed this basket on the top platform — and low and behold, guess who showed up! Such interesting and colourful entertainment! Food preference for our Blue Jays are peanuts in the shell, but they will also eat dried bread crumbs and sunflower seeds.

Bossy Blue Jays

Numerous different winter birds visit our feeders daily, but the Blue Jays certainly add a nice splash of colour to the wintery white days.
