The Architecture Of Feathers

The white-breasted nuthatch lands sideways on a spent sunflower stalk. He's so close that I can appreciate the scalloped border between white face and black head, the soft grey velvet cape, the architecturally layered wings, the thin dark line behind the nuthatch's appraising eye.
