Description

Early one morning, this past summer, I heard a lot of commotion outside with the birds. I went to go see what in the world was going on and was able to witness one of the most precious moments of my newly found birding hobby. This mama Western Kingbird was teaching her fledglings to hunt. She would fly over and catch a moth off the side of the garage wall and then release it near the babies for them to catch. One of them was having a difficult time so she landed and gave it a bug for encouragement. Soon both babies were trying to catch the bugs off the wall. The next morning, they flew in again. This time mama sat in a tree while both babies dive bombed our garage wall for the bugs. It became our joke that we needed to make sure a light was on at night so the birds would have “Breakfast Bugs” in the morning.

What a beautiful picture of momma feeding her babies… you know it happens but don’t get to see it up close very often. Sweet picture!
