Description

I had an excellent morning during spring migration photographing a mixed flock of Yellow-rumped, Yellow and Cape May Warblers and American Redstarts that were foraging low down over a small woodland pond. Suddenly, one of the Cape Mays dropped to the ground and emerged triumphantly with an enormous grub. It settled on a log and proceeded to subdue its catch while I snapped away. All of the warblers seemed quite comfortable in my presence, but the Cape Mays were the most curious and the most flamboyant. If I didn’t know better I would say they were hamming it up for the camera!
