Description

After waiting many months for the arrival of the male Varied Thrush, I was finally rewarded with his first appearance today, during Metro Vancouver’s second snowstorm of the winter season. Rather than forage underneath the hanging feeders for fallen birdseed as the other backyard regulars did, he chose to excavate an area under the snow for bugs–giving me many photo opportunities to capture that stunning palette of oranges, grays, and blacks. Photographed February 12, 2019.

Male Varied Thrush Foraging In The Snow

The big surprise for me was (finally!) seeing this lovely male Varied Thrush today in the backyard during our second snowstorm of the winter season.
