Description

This year Red-breasted Nuthatches were regular visitors to our feeders by the end of September and have been visiting throughout the day since. They feed at both the seed and suet feeders, but their favorite food seems to be the sunflower seeds as seen in the photo. Their trips to the feeder are very quick, often in and out in just a couple of seconds. This is the first winter they have been here so regularly in central Indiana since 2012-2013, making them a special bird for us. Some winters we’ve seen just one or two in our Feeder Watch counts, some winters none at all.
