Description

This Red – bellied Woodpecker landed up In our Tulip tree, and proceeded to work his way down, jamming his beak into the cracks under the bark. He was after some hibernating bugs, and pieces of suet that other birds had stashed there. He even was ground feeding, picking up the stuff that he had dislodged. In this photo, he’s got his head turned all the way around, so he could poke his beakl up into the bark recess from below. Very interesting behaviour.
