I’ve noticed that several birds like to have a “backstop” to help them hold on to a seed or at least prevent it from sliding away while they peck at it. So I took a small piece of an old rubber door mat and set it on a railing nearby my feeders, and the birds are enjoying its being there to use for that purpose.
