I believe that a young male molting into adult male plumage. There is no such thing as half-male half-female birds. Birds are either male or female.

The half-male, half-female phenomenon is called Gynandromorphism, and it’s extremely rare. There are about 100 million cardinals, and I would guess that less than 0.00001% of the population is affected.
