Description

Downy woodpecker on a suet log hoping the Hawk (Cooper’s or Sharp-Shinned?) doesn’t look down. He’d been on the suet log for some time as the hawk spent time in a nearby tree looking for a meal before heading for the feeder where he was when this picture was taken.

A very cool shot…poor Downy! I’ve often seen the feeder birds freeze as a hawk came into a tree bordering my yard, but never seen an incident of such close proximity as this.

Texas Bird Family says:

Sharp-shinned Hawk. Did he get the Downy?
