We were out photographing birds at the mouth of the Englishman River in Parksville when this Killdeer showed up. Apparently we were too close to its nest, although we never saw it. As I stood still taking pictures, the Killdeer came closer and closer getting more and more agitated. Since we did not want to upset the bird we backed out of the area very gingerly. It was the most magnificent “broken wing trick” distraction we had ever seen.
