Description

Not surprisingly, with the numerous pigeons in our area, this falcon set up on a hunting perch nearby. Long, narrow and pointed wings were visible in flight and perched, where they nearly reached the tip of the tail. Black head, nape and wide moustache stripe (helmet) over pale cheek; dark blue-gray back with lighter, rufous barred underparts identify him as a Peregrine Falcon. Seen cruising to and hunting from a perch at the top of a 100+ ft. transmission pole where he dropped in a stoop to capture prey. In a word, beautiful.
