Description

This female pileated woodpecker has been visiting my suet feeders most days this winter, especially the cold days. When she’s bored of the suet she likes to tear strips of bark off the lilac tree. It’s difficult to get a good photo shooting through the window, but she’s so close that you get a good sense of her size. A downy woodpecker also comes regularly; I’m waiting for the chance to photograph them together because the size difference is ridiculous.
