This week's eastern North Carolina snow brought a variety of birds to my backyard feeders. In addition to the usual doves, Carolina chickadees, titmice, juncos, and others, the red-winged blackbirds made an appearance.

This is what my yard looked like last weekend too (Taberna). Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds, Brown-headed Cowbirds: the big three of the Icteridae family! Would you believe these guys are related to Meadowlarks and Orioles?
