Description

We have a Red-shouldered hawk that we named Rusty, who I’ve only seen in the tall trees in the woods behind our neighbors’ houses. Today was the first time I got so close to her. I was counting the birds at the feeder for the Project Feederwatch when suddenly, the crows and Jays started screaming. It was so awesome to see her swoop in and land on our Cherry tree and then our Spruce. They don’t actively hunt birds, so the birds continued to come to the feeders but the Blue Jays would take turns flying into the Cherry above her and watching her and the Crows kept circling the yard and cawing. The squirrels scattered and did not appear for over an hour later. She ignored the Crows and Jays and remained in the Spruce for about 20 minutes.
