As the sun was rising on a beautiful morning in Florida I watched this Red-Shouldered Hawk swoop down and catch a large insect. It must have wanted an easy meal because there were several sparrows and warblers around. It sat on an aged fence post at the edge of a farmer’s field and ate it. I had seen smaller birds of prey eat insects but never a larger hawk.
