I put peanuts into a Nut Hut for squirrels and birds. Scrub jays were frequent visitors, but often the squirrels had emptied out the Nut Hut by the time the jays came around. I began whistling when I put the peanuts out, just as an experiment. Several scrub jays learned the whistle meant “peanuts.”
