Description

Throughout the winter I have had several ruffed grouse come to eat the apples on the flowering crab trees in my yard. As the winter wore on, the apples the grouse had NOT yet eaten became farther and farther out on the branches, and the farther out onto skinny branches the birds had to shimmy – it was hysterical to watch. Now it is January and they have eaten all the reachable apples. To help the grouse reach the last of the apples I now have some wire brushes clamped to the tree limbs with apples stuck to the tines. This grouse is happy to show up and gulp down every apple I put out there. I didn’t know if this buffet for the birds would work or not, but very unexpectedly, it did!
