A male Eastern Towhee, probably the same one, always waters in Central Park in New York City! If House Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Juncos, Northern Cardinals, House Finches, American Goldfinches, and even Fox Sparrows bask in the relative warmth of this city (?!), there must be plenty of food. I have seen his mate as well. How beautiful her lighter colors are! I feel the same way about the plumage of the female Northern Cardinal. This Eastern Towhee is one of my Winter “Good Luck” birds when I go to Central Park to take pictures and spot birds. Other Good Luck birds are the 2 Carolina Wrens (at least) staying the winter, Black-capped Chickadees, Hairy Woodpeckers, and PIGEONS! There are not as many pigeons in Central Park as one would think. I have counted only 2 flocks on the West Side. They must stay in open areas to see the growing numbers of Pale Male’s offspring. He must be a Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather by now!
