I needed to water the vegetable garden but was afraid the spray from the sprinkler would chase away the hummingbirds that were sipping nectar on some nearby flowers. To my utter amazement, one stopped feeding and took a position on a tomato cage in the vegetable bed and frolicked under the sprinkler for nearly 10 minutes! It seemed to be very happy. Despite the fact that we live on a lake where water is always available, these little guys seem to prefer airborne water. They also flock to the hose when I’m doing hand-watering.
