Last spring, on a particularly blustery afternoon, I went for a walk along the lakeshore between Belmont and Montrose harbors. Few humans were foolish enough to brave the winds and cold, but multitudes of terns were searching and diving for tasty Lake Michigan fish. Flying into the wind, the birds seemed like they were being filmed in stop-motion animation.
