Description

This female pileated woodpecker began regularly visiting our upside-down feeder (which we keep filled with suet cakes containing chopped nuts) in the spring of 2014. I was delighted to see her feeding a daughter last year and a daughter and son (separately) this year.
However, I never managed to get a photo of the moment where her wings are spread as she lands and stabilizes her perch — until finally on this occasion in July, when I got a whole series, including this amazing frame where you get a perfect view of both the top and underside!
