Description

When I first noticed the Cooper’s Hawk perched on a fence rail near my patio, I was quite excited to get such a close-up view of it. Then I saw a squirrel beneath the tree and I said to myself, “Game on!” For at least 15 minutes the Cooper’s flew around the yard in pursuit of the squirrel, which seemed to enjoy taunting the hawk. The squirrel almost became breakfast a couple of times, but seemed to find a way to escape the Cooper’s talons. It was fascinating to watch and to see the beautiful markings of the Cooper’s in the morning sun. Finally, the Cooper’s gave up and flew away in frustration!
