Description

In January 2012, there were three Muscovy ducks hanging out with the mallards at Duck Pond at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum. They were an entertaining bunch. On several occasions they seemed to go crazy frolicking in the water.

I have a female who is nesting right under our window in some bushes. I don’t want to scare her but want to communicate with her. Any advice??

Heidi Faulkner, Project Assistant says:

Hello Gail, thanks for reaching out. I checked in with the experts at NestWatch and they say: Our best advice is to give the bird plenty of space and to try not to make any sudden movements near the nest. If a bird is scared off their nest too often, there is a risk they will abandon the nest altogether. Some people choose to keep the curtains closed while the nest is active, or place a barrier, like cardboard, against the glass so that the adult can’t see movement inside the window.
