Description

This was the first time seeing Smokey-Gray turkeys. Smokey-gray (white) turkeys are rare but not uncommon in Michigan. This color variation in wild turkeys is a recessive trait. Their presence is due to the Wild Turkey Restoration Program with birds acquired from Iowa in the 1980’s. It is not an indication of birds with domestic turkey genes. This trait is similar to malinism or albinism found in wild turkeys. It was exciting to see these three together with a group of wild turkeys. Was very fortunate because I haven’t seen any since.

We have a gray turkey at our corn feeder in Novi, Mi. Mingling with other turkeys too. One of the male Tom’s is fanning his tail to attract her. Suburbia at it’s finest😊
