Description
Actually, as dramatic as their courtship and plumage look, the males sound more like frogs, and look more like bobbing corks. Maybe that’s why this female doesn’t look all that interested, and is cutting their dog-and-pony show short by swimming through it.
Until I took this photo, I didn’t realize that Hooded Merganser drakes have neck feathers/ruffs, which look like beards. Photographed at the Centennial Beach pond in Boundary Bay Regional Park, on an sudden impulse to bird the area.
