Those are actually Pine Siskins, they’re also in the Finch family though!

Pine Siskins were ubiquitous at our feeders during the 2014-2015 season irruption. Not having seen them before, I mistook them for female House Finches until I was able to get close enough to see the yellow coloration on their wings. The fine, pointy beak is another telltale characteristic. Pine Siskins and American Goldfinches are similar in size, but Goldfinches lack “striping” on their breast. I was hoping another irruption would bring them our way this year, but it was not to be.
