Description

Suet feeder enclosed within a larger cage to restrict access to the suet to birds that are small enough to enter the larger cage enclosure or cling to the bottom. Starlings and grackles can fly up and peck at the bottom of the cage but they tend to lose interest. If they persist, there is a metal plate that can be inserted in the bottom of the suet well to totally prevent access from the bottom. Then only birds that are small enough to enter the larger cage can feed on the suet, which includes downys, chickadees and nuthatches. After the starlings and grackles have given up or lost interest, I usually remove the metal plate from the bottom of the suet well. Then Red-bellied woodpecker can also feed easily from the bottom. It works!
