For three years we have had the distinct pleasure to be Purple Martin Landlords. Our Martins showed up in March this year (the earliest thus far) and were we ever happy! Here is a photo of one of our daddy Martins feeding a very juicy dragonfly to his brood of five. The Purple Martin diet exists exclusively of flying insects with dragonflies being their favorites.
A side note: during cold snaps or extended periods of rain, Purple Martins are in danger of starvation because there are no flying insects in such extreme weather.
