Description

F13 was born in captivity at a zoo in Salisbury MD on June 2, 1997. At approximately 4.5 weeks old, DEC officer Pete Nye banded it and placed it in a Pepacton Reservoir nest that had another eaglet of a similar age, so it’s a foster baby! Officer Nye called it a male. On a day back in October of 2014 I was fortunate enough to have a most amazing encounter, or should I say 4, with F13 while fishing the Cannonsville Reservoir. F13 followed me and my fishing partner around the bay we were at landing in very close proximity to our boat each time. After taking about 1000 –yes 1000+ photos of the bird, I was able to view the band number and pass it on to the DEC to see if they could provide me with information about this most inquisitive Eagle. Typically birds avoid human contact, but not F13. Come to find out it was actually expecting us to feed it a fish. However we did not as it is not a good thing to habituate any wild animal to humans. Guess it decided to nest close to home.
