In May 2013 I moved to Brooklyn. Within the first month of living there, my husband casually remarked one day about the parrots he’d seen in the pear tree in our neighbors’ backyard. I was flabbergasted and certain he was mistaken; that he’d just seen someone’s escaped pet. Until…. I put out a suet block for the regular backyard birds I had seen and ended up feeding flocks of Monk Parakeets (as pictured)! Just goes to show you, there’s feederwatching to be had everywhere, even in a concrete jungle like Brooklyn.
