Description

I had only had my feeder out for a day or so when this rare treat wandered by. There as more than one, so curious if they are related.

Yellow Cardinal

Dare to be different!

Holly Faulkner, Project Assistant says:

Hi Cynthia, Yellow Cardinals are quite rare – one made national news a few years ago. This cardinal could be showing yellow plumage due to a genetic mutation that prevents the expression of red pigment, or it could be a sign of illness; poor diet or environmental stress could cause this as well. Check out this article to learn more about the phenomenon, and let us know if you have any questions at feederwatch@cornell.edu.
