I always come running when I hear the very unique call of this beauty. For being “the top dog” in my backyard, it’s call sounds very “wimpy” to me in a way. One of my fav’s to see, especially in the sunlight.

Species: Red-bellied Woodpecker
Frankly, I would have gone with “red *headed* woodpecker,” but that’s just me... they really played it fast and loose with both color and anatomy back in the bird-naming days.
