Description

I put out a seed log and, although birds visited it, they didn’t appear to be attracted to it to the degree that I had anticipated. It was rained on, snowed on, froze, thawed and froze again, and began to look really disgusting, and I only left it up because occasionally a few birds to peck at it, which, to me, meant that it had not become moldy, or they wouldn’t have touched it. Then, this female Hairy Woodpecker found it, and it became her special treat…coming to eat several times per day. At the end of a week, she, and a few other birds, mostly other woodpeckers, had reduced its size by two-thirds, and pretty soon it will be completely consumed.
