Female Northern Cardinal with lump on neck. Lump appears to be under the skin, so likely some sort of cyst or tumor. Bird appears healthy otherwise

I have a male cardinal with a lump on the back of his neck. Yesterday it looked bigger. He seems to be eating and flying without any problem. What causes a lump? What is the prognosis?
