Assateague Island

Description

While birding on Assateague Island, VA on a foggy morning I saw approximately 2,000 Snow Geese. Hundreds flew overhead, but they were to far away to capture in a photo with the camera and lenses I have. I drove further down the road to Swan Lake and was happy to see hundreds on the lake. They flew off in different size groups over a period of one half hour. I took many shots capturing them in a flying v and also as a massive group.

It was interesting to see that as a group flew off some of that group returned to the gaggle on the pond. They appeared to be caught up in the moment when a group flew off, but then realized their respective gaggle was still on the lake and they returned to join them.

This photo and one showing them in a flying V are my favorites. I submitted this one because I saw the relationship the geese have with each other.
