Bird looks misshapen to me. Can fly but not well. Tends to visit when few or no other birds are around.
Other
that looks very similar to a goldfinch I saw at my feeders and birdbath yesterday in Ohio. I did some Google searching and I suspect Trichomonosis, aka “fat finch disease”
