Description

We have a Carolina Wren couple that are regulars at our feeders and birdbath for months. One of them has one leg and has adapted very well. Took a while to get a good photo. There is right leg and no other scars or marks that would show that this was an injury from an animal attack.

I have an adorable Carolina Wren pair living in my yard and have for a few years. They are very curious and I sometimes find one snooping in our garage. That being said…. today I heard something rustling in the leaves outside the garage and upon inspection I found that somehow little Carolina had gotten caught in one of the mouse traps in our garage. The leg was badly mangled from the bird trying to drag the trap away. I released the leg. It soon reappeared in my mealworm feeder tray trying to navigate on one leg. It seemed to be doing ok and spent time resting on it’s belly as it ate. My heart is broken but I’m hoping it will learn to survive this way. I will continue to watch over this little sweetheart and hope for the best🙏🏻
