This past fall I left the hummingbird feeders out a bit later than usual and was surprised when a hummingbird showed up in the middle of October which is kind of late here. Based on the coloring it was definitely not a late Ruby-throat. A hummingbird bander was able to band the bird after several attempts and confirm it was a female Rufous Hummingbird. She stuck around for about 2 weeks before moving on. I have learned my lesson…the hummingbird feeders will be staying up much later next year!
